Short Stories, Articles, EssaysIt's hard to say which story was my first -- the one about the girl who graduated, or the story about Harold and his love for baseball -- both composed when I could barely put fat pencil to lined newsprint paper. When I learned to spell my name I didn't wait for pencil and paper to demonstrate. Instead, I wrote it verbally: "One down, three across; one down one across -- two times!; one down, three across -- again!; then two down and a crooked one."
